Bill to shield convicted leaders from contesting withdrawn

Was it Rahul Gandhi's 'complete nonsense' statement on Ordinance of convicted leaders promoted by the Govt or is it BJP's continuous claim of protest against the Bill supporting convicted leaders from contesting elections  which is responsible for the withdrawal of the bill to shield convicted leaders ?
Was the entire episode a got-up case to show Rahul Gandhi's might prior to the 2014 General Elections?
Both the major parties , the Congress and the BJP, seem busy claiming their credit on the withdrawal of the bill.
The major question is why did the Indian political fraternity feel offended when the Supreme Court had announced ban on convicted political leaders from contesting ?
